Last Thursday a select few of scenesters were able to get a look at some of the art contributed to Brisk x Star Wars: Episode One – The Phantom Menace campaign. I’m pretty sure by now you’ve seen the commercial with Darth Maul trying to battle Yoda and has a soda machine dropped on him. The artwork was done by artists Artek, Mark Dean Veca, Jasper Wong, Pose, Leo Eguiarte, Dual Forces, Eye One, and Tristan Eaton.
The event was held at The Cantina located by the Meatpacking District. Besides the line — which wasn’t all that bad, and you know I skipped it — it was pretty discreet.
More below.

Once inside we rushed to the open bar. The cocktails were all infused with Brisk Iced Tea flavors and vodka. In typical event-going fashion I took two at a time since I had to be at another event later that night. All the drinks were tasty. As much as I drink I’m surprised I’ve never stumbled upon these concoctions.

Of course great music was provided by DJ Soul, Just Blaze, NXNY. They played classic Mobb Deep to the newest crazy sounding dance music you hear nowadays. But as long as you can dance to it, it’s all good.

So the other night Paper Magazine held their Sounds Like PAPER concert in the Williamsburgh section of Brooklyn at House of Vans and the venue was spacious needless to say. Guests were treated to free Coronas (in a can though) and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. First thing I had to get was a beer of course, then came the Cherry Garcia (super hyped!). People were scattered everywhere, blunt smoke was in the air, empty cans and Ben & Jerry’s cups painted the faux-grassy knoll area which my crew and I where located, and eventually the porter-potty line became enormous.
Ok, let’s see some pics and videos….

For all my cyclists out there.

Guests were given the newest edition of Paper Magazine. Funny that Santigold was on the cover and suppose to perform that night, but didn’t.

Shot from the “grassy knoll”

Told you it was first thing in my hand. Many followed.

I fucked this all the way up. Only if they had Oatmeal Cookie Chunk! Regardless, it was delicious.

My lovely crew, minus 2 others.

Joe Jonas opened and graced the fans with 4 songs off his upcoming album Fast Life.

Of course he had to show fans that he’s all grown up by ditching the blazer.

Truthfully speaking, Joe Jonas held it down. The crowd was dancing and the stans were singing along whilst going ape-shit. I was even caught bopping during the performance.

Swizz Beats closed the show with a bunch of classic snippets from current and past work. For a artist that isn’t the best lyrically, he had the crowd going INSANE. If most artist did what Swizz did I guarantee all their shows would be the dopest. It felt like a club on steroids, times a million. He played hits On to the Next One, Ruff Ryders Anthem, Bring ‘Em Out, and current tracksReebok Back and Everyday (Coolin’) off his new album Haute Living

You have to admit, that Muhammad Ali shirt is too cold.

NEW YORK - JUNE 21: Pete Seeger attends WhyHunger's 35th anniversary celebration at Gotham Hall on June 21, 2010 in New York City. (Photos by Katya Moorman)
On Monday night I had the privilege of singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with Pete Seeger. I was attending the WhyHunger-Chapin Awards Dinner: a yearly celebration of those who give back in both music and life to help those in the greatest need. A legendary musician, singer, songwriter and passionate activist Pete Seeger was the recipient of the this year's WhyHunger Chapin Award. Through his music and life, Pete focuses the world’s attention on poverty, hunger, racism, the environment, waterways, war and peace. It was inspiring to see someone who has never given up and keeps on contributing to the world and performing at the age of 91.
Fellow recipients at the event also include Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson, as well at Growing Home.
Growing Home is an organization that provides job training for homeless and low-income individuals in Chicago through a social enterprise business based on organic agriculture. Ashford and Simpson, 2010’s ASCAP-Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award recipients, are one of the most successful songwriting duos in the history of pop music and have earned 22 gold and platinum albums over the course of their career. In the tradition of WhyHunger cofounder Harry Chapin, the duo steeped themselves in humanitarian projects. They performed at Live Aid in 1985 and Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday. Val is on the ASCAP Board of Directors and is a spokesperson for the Speaking of Woman’s Health organization. Nick serves on the Board for George Faison’s Firehouse Theatre. They regularly perform at charity events, such as Atlanta’s 24th Annual Mayor’s MASKED Ball; and in support of the United Negro College Fund.
