Opening Reception of the Black

Light Lounge Art Installation

You are invited to the place on the edge of the visible spectrum...

A magic other world existing only in the light of blackness, brighter and more vivid than the world of daylight. A magical place that only the senses and mind can penetrate. Inspiring childhood fantasy and teenage drug induced transcendtal psychadelic encounters...

From the shops of Spencer Gifts to bedrooms and basements all over America...

Secret Project Robot, sTo, and Gabe from Desert Island together with dozens of artists are curating and creating a black light phantasmagoria. Featuring psychadelic posters from this consciousness and beyond. It will be both a tribute to the fascinating enigma of black light art and an exploration of the style as it has progressed since the 1960's.

Black Light was invented by Robert William Woods in 1903 for medical purposes. "Black Light emitselectromagnetic radiation producing a light that is on the edge of the visible human spectrum." It goes under many names, invisible light, ultra violet light, magic lantern and black light. In 1934 Robert Switzer invented ourecent ink/paint. The combination of black light and ourecent paint has inspired the art and fantasty world for many generations-from the mind expanding psychadelic works via Timothy Leary,

Ken Keesy and the Mary Pranksters to the Black Light Theaters of Asia and Prague all the way to amusement parks, funhouses, set design and teenage rooms.

Please come experience this world of wonder.
