1/15/16- Celebrate the life of #DavidBowie with two FREE screenings at Film Society @Lincolncenter Get yo' ties now!

Following the saddening news of David Bowie’s passing on January 10, the Film Society pays tribute to the musician, actor, and artist with two free screenings on the evening of Friday, January 15: Nagisa Oshima’s Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth.
While largely known as the glam-rock music sensation, Bowie was an accomplished screen actor in his own right, and left a legacy on the big screen in roles such as his depiction of a British POW in a Japanese prison in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, the puzzling and elegant extraterrestrial at the center of The Man Who Fell to Earth, and many more. Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and The Man Who Fell to Earth will screen at the Walter Reade Theater at 6:30pm and 9:00pm, respectively.

In addition to this tribute of Bowie’s film work, the Film Society will welcome avant-garde titan Jonas Mekas to our Amphitheater for the first Film Society Free Talk of 2016. Mekas is the founder of New York’s Anthology Film Archives, and has left a profound effect on the culture of New York through his writing, installations, curatorial work, and filmmaking. The event will take place on February 10 at 6pm. Film Society Free Talks are sponsored by HBO®.
