Wander the halls and grounds of a sprawling Victorian mansion to discover immersive performances from international artists, sensory pleasures, and a feast of themed foods and beverages from KG FARE. Lead Performers: Miss Betsy Rose | Armitage Shanks | Lili La Scala | House of Noire. Guests can then dance the night away to the electrified bygone era tunes of London based DJ duo: The Roustabouts.

"An exquisite event without equal, but also an escape, an enchanted journey through time and culture, which arrives at an awakening of our senses." - August Man Magazine

"Artist and Executive Producer, Alston Stephanus, draws inspiration from surrealism, burlesque, nature, and his own Indonesian/Chinese culture." - Vogue Italia

Tickets are $99 each and include: entry, complementary canapé-style food throughout the evening, a themed beverage, and a glass of champagne. A cash bar will also be available. Must be 21+ to attend.

Elaborate vintage attire encouraged, but not required.

cordially invite you to

The Grand Victorian Garden Tea - Mother's Day edition

Sunday, May 14 (Mother's Day), 4-8pm, $40, all ages, rain or shine
at the historical Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden, 421 E 61st St

Social media: @gemini_scorpio #geminiandscorpio #gsvictorianball

Join us as we travel back in time to the Victorian Age, to an elegant country resort a short carriage ride away from the hustle and bustle of the city (which at that time extended only as far north as 14th Street). It's a proper turn-of-century tea party, with finger sandwiches, scones and fancies, in a darling garden attached to an impossible Victorian cottage overlooking modern Manhattan. Historical chef Rebecca Leigh Silverman will hand-make delectable treats from antique recipes, and give a small talk about each dish.

The menu (more TBA):
Assorted Finger Sandwiches
Scones with Clotted Cream & Preserves
Battenberg cake
Lemon curd tarts

Activities will include:
- Victorian garden games, including Game of Graces [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_graces ] and Battledore and Shuttlecock [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battledore_and_shuttlecock ]
- Hand-drawn portraits of guests by Anastasios Taso Megaris
- Card games, including Flinch, played with an original 1903 deck
- DIY amusements from original Victorian books

Dress code: 1800-1910s summer garden party, with all-white, cream and pastel tones encouraged. No modern casual wear, please - though modern cocktail summer attire is easy to accessorize with a nod to Victorian times. About our venue:
Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house for a 23-acre estate, and converted into the Mount Vernon Hotel in 1826, this stone building sits on land originally owned by Colonel William Stephens Smith, and his wife Abigail Adams Smith, daughter of John Adams. The hotel operated until 1833, at which point the house became the home for three generations of a New York City family.

More on Gemini & Scorpio

Gemini & Scorpio, two funky Brooklyn gals, have been running the second-largest non-commercial New York City events list since 2002, spreading the word on underground happenings you'd otherwise never hear about. They are also the makers of themed costume parties with live entertainment: legendary happenings from wild circus throwdowns to dazzling vintage dance socials to one-of-a-kind Russian baths bashes. The events are marked by offbeat themes, fantastic costumes, mind-blowing music, burlesque and circus performances, unique art and decor, and wild dancing into the morning, drawing 200-1,000 costumed creative types each time. In 2012, they renovated and opened the Gemini and Scorpio Loft, an independent 2,000sq ft arts space in Gowanus, Brooklyn, that provides affordable space for theater, dance, parties and music.

G&S have been profiled in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Metro New York, and covered extensively by most major New York publications, including The Village Voice, TimeOut NY, New York Post, and more. But amNY put it best in their "Nightlife Trends 2011" - "Expect a setting that's both festive and whimsical, featuring art installations, roving performers, cheap drinks and DJ sets that run late into the night. Guests dress to the nines, whatever the theme: steampunk glamour, circus riot, faux fur or neon bling." Metro New York added in a 2014 feature on the brand: "Only at a Gemini and Scorpio party can you rub elbows with Jean-Paul Gaultier, catch a brass band in a bathhouse, and witness a circus show outside of Lincoln Center."

Some other select press honors: Thrillist Best Underground NYC Parties 2015; Refinery29 Best NYC Dance Parties 2015; TimeOut "Best Secret Parties in NYC" 2013; Buzzfeed #3 in "Top 10 Steampunk Parties" 2012; TimeOut "Best of NYC" 2011 & "Essential New York" 2010; ChloeJo.com "Best List of What To Do in NYC" 2008; Village Voice "Best Of" 2006.
